There's a certain human trait that I've found is a reliable predictor of whether you have the makings of a fair designer on your hands, or one who is destined for great things: Curiosity. Aaron has a powerful curiosity that drives him to make beautiful, useful and unexpected work. Pair with that a sense of taste, intuition and a drive to validate the subjective with contemporary UX research processes, I expect big things from Aaron Gygie. I had a pleasure of having Aaron as one of my students at RED Academy. He has a ton of positive energy, enthusiasm and passion for design. He is a very creative thinker, strives for innovation and has great outside-the-box ideas. He is very dedicated to success of the project and has a unique ability to separate his ego from the project. He comes with amazing ideas but can also let go easily if his ideas get rejected. It has been a privilege seeing Aaron’s growth and transformation as a designer. Aaron brings in such a deep sensibility and perspective to design with his innate empathy and inquisitiveness, coupled with an array of domains he draws from being a passionate individual and a sponge of knowledge and life. Combine those with a relentless work ethic and grit to see things through and create the best possible work every time and you not only have one of the most unique and complete designers I have come to know, but a professional I would always seek opportunities to collaborate with.

I have witnessed this passion, authenticity and focus from the time Aaron was starting out as a student, to someone I had the honour of working with, and as a designer that has impacted the teams he has worked with in more ways than one. He is able to articulate and present work as strong as he is able to craft them with other people, who not only look up to him but enjoy his camaraderie just as much. His process, creativity and precision only keeps getting better and I am so excited to see what he does next.

I had the opportunity to work with Aaron as one of the primary workshop leaders for Vancouver Design Week 2017. From the get-go Aaron strives for accuracy and perfection. When planning his User Experience related activities I witnessed a man on a mission to provide a compelling and educational route for his visitors. He wanted to make sure nothing was left out but reserved an editing eye to ensure a digestible and intuitive experience.

Aaron was clear with communicating and eager to assist in all forms; even with the plethora of magazine cutouts I had placed in front of him. Would love an opportunity to be part of the A-team!
